Ever tried naming a baby? It seems that unless you’ve got a family name in the bag or something you’ve loved forever, it’s virtually impossible. Seriously, I thought this was supposed to be the easy part? I’m beginning to question whether this beats my sleepless nights!
We’re (Okay, I’m …) looking for something different. Different can mean a something completely new, a unique spelling on a traditional name, or something with a vintage feel that’s not currently over-used. I think unisex names are fun, and am completely open to them, as well.
In this quest, we’ve tried everything. We’ve done thinking on our own, scoured the internet, flipped through countless pages in baby-naming books, and taken suggestions from friends and family. There are plenty of names I like, but many are eliminated because they’re just too long. Enter the rules:
- Rule #1: her first name must have only one or two syllables. Three syllables in both her first and last name would be a mouthful.
- Rule #2: nothing trendy. While there are plenty of beautiful names being used by the masses right now, I don’t want a name for her that everyone else has.
- Rule #3: preferably not beginning with the letter “B.”
I don’t think these rules are too much to ask. The plan is to have a handful of names ready to go for her day of arrival so we can decide from those who she’ll be once we meet her. So far, we have 2 (err, maybe 3), and neither are totally exciting to us. (Don’t ask, because odds are, we won’t tell. He he!) With just over 7 weeks to go, I fear we’re running out of time.
Any suggestions? Where can we find names? How did you decide on the name for your child(ren)?
*sigh*
