Lily will reach the two month old milestone on Saturday, 7/11. As I was checking her progress in What to Expect the First Year, I thought I might share with you each month what she’s done and what she’s expected to do in the next month (a different post). So … here’s what is expected for her second month of life and where she stands!
According to What to Expect the First Year, by two months, Lily …
… should be able to:
- smile in response to your smile (Yep, she’s got this one down! So cute!)
- respond to a bell in some way, such as startling, crying, quieting (Okay, I can’t say I’ve used a bell, per se, but she does startle quite well. Hands and arms extend and sometimes freeze in place – too funny!)
… will probably be able to:
- vocalize in ways other than crying (e.g., cooing) (She sure does – we have some serious conversations!)
- on stomach, lift head 45 degrees (Yep …)
… may even be able to:
- hold head steady when upright (Thumbs up here!)
- on stomach, raise chest, supported by arms
- roll over (one way)
- grasp a rattle held to backs or tips of fingers
- pay attention to an object as small as a raisin (but make sure such objects are kept out of baby’s reach)
- reach for an object
- say “Ah-goo” or similar vowel-consonant combination (I’m not really sure if some of her chattering falls into the “ah-goo” category specifically. Seriously, what’s “ah-goo?” I’ll give her a maybe here.)
… may possibly be able to:
- smile spontaneously (Yes … love it!)
- bring both hands together (Sure can …)
- on stomach, lift head 90 degrees
- laugh out loud
- squeal in delight
- follow an object held about 6 inches above the baby’s face and move 180 degrees (from one side to the other), with baby watching all the way
