playlist 4 …

Another short list with a hidden theme – surprised? Enya is music therapy for me, relieving any stress I could have. Both Beth Orton and Heather Nova take me back to college days, and Walking on Sunshine makes me dance every time! Finally, Rusted Root rounds out the list, because no playlist is complete without them! If there’s anything on this list that’s new to you, try it! Oh, and let me know how it goes!

Enjoy!

word of the week: (just catching up)

For several weeks now, my husband has been coming up with a word of the week. I don’t know about you, but I’m always up for learning more. These aren’t necessarily words we don’t know, but those we find we don’t use often enough. I’m forgetting some, but here’s what we’ve got to work with so far …

books

07.14 … juxtaposition: [n: juhk-stuh-puh-zish-uhn]
Close together or side-by-side.

06.16 … phosphorescence: [n: fos-fuh-res-uhns]
Luminosity following exposure to light or other radiation.
I personally loved this word of the week because I’ve been a part of creating phosphorescence. Night dives are the best, and typically, the divemaster has all divers kneel on a patch of sand and turn off their lights. Divers then wave their arms and the phosphorescence “light show” that follows is amazing! It occurs from plankton organisms giving off bioluminescence when disturbed, and subsequently, glowing blue particles can be seen moving throughout the water. Incredible!

06.09 … consist: [n: kon-sist]
The rolling stock, without the locomotive, making up a train.

06.02 … technocracy: [n: tek-nok-ruh-see]
A government controlled by scientists, engineers and technical experts.

playlist 3 …

It’s that time again. A short list, but still a list. I’ve searched the vault high and low and come up with this eclectic mix.

As always, it’s laced with a few of my favorites. Funky Days are Back Again always makes me want to dance. Now that I think about it, it’s probably best suited for dancing in the car. And yes, I do that. Last of Days is light, best categorized in my own twisted day as having a late spring/early summer feel. Larry Placek and the Tune Masters bring us Love Me Forever, which immediately makes me think of my well-rooted and quite wacky in-laws. I can picture my husband and both of his parents singing this goofy tune. Beth Orton is a classic, and she has a good showing in my library. Her voice and music feel like autumn. With that, I’ll tell you that the playlist is all about … well, why don’t I let you figure it out for yourself! :)

Enjoy!

We’re back for round two, and this time, there’s another hidden theme. A few artists in this mix are near the top of my favorites list – Toby Lightman has an organic sound to her music that I can’t resist, and The Animals Were Gone is among my favorites by Damien Rice. Cruel Sun is a Rusted Root classic, and Take Five: Classic Jazz is great Saturday morning coffee music! Oh, and if you haven’t heard the new Counting Crows album, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, it’s great! A bit “noisier” than their previous albums, which is a good thing. Still, though, with that classic Counting Crows signature sound. And while Catie Curtis usually requires me to be in an introspective mood, her music reflects life, telling stories that range from detailed accounts of hard times to some of life’s little successes. She’s amazing!

Enjoy!

For those of you who are unaware, I’m a music fanatic. While there are times that I do thoroughly enjoy silence, most of my day is filled with a constant flow of music. A day at work without my iPod is depressing and leaves a bit to be desired in the productivity department. Silly, I know, but so terribly true.

My iPod is at present filled with 4,846 songs, and could quickly grow if I wanted to spend the time to transfer the rest of my CDs over. Someday. Until then, I’ll rely on what’s available through iTunes. Stretched out side-by-side, my iTunes wishlist could probably wrap around the world a few times.

Now, for some about today’s playlist. Bob Marley is one of the best for putting me in a good mood; as soon as I hear his voice, I’m back in Grand Cayman, diving and having fun! “C’mon N’ Ride It” is for my nephews, the biggest choo choo fanatics I’ve ever seen! For the smoothest angry song out there, there’s “Indigo Flow.” Plus, it references the Deftones, and who can’t love a song that does that!? Anymore, I’ve got to listen to music from Grey’s Anatomy since I can’t see the show, so there’s “Moon and Sun” by Gomez. And for those sleepless nights, the renowned Ludwig Van Beethoven offers his compositions, sure to soothe even the most restless sleeper. Finally, to make the list feel just right, there are some of my favorites mixed in: Matt Perrone, Toby Lightman and Enya.

Enjoy! Oh, and see if you can figure out the theme of this playlist!
